November 9, 2009 Burton Fire and Rescue crews reported to the Burton Training Building on Dort Highway for training on the use of thermal imagers. They trained at 9:00am and 6:30pm, since the department consists soley of paid on call personnel. This means that they have full time employment and when their pagers tone out they respond to their respective stations and board one of the apparatus to respond to the emergency incident. Many times this happens when they doing those family things we all enjoy. Since the firefighters work many different shifts at their full time employment, we are obligated to have two training sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening.

The reports back to the chief's office from the crews were favorable and the instructors felt the training was a success.

Since thermal imagers are used in complete darkness (they measure temprature in 1/10,000th of a degree) it is close to impossible to get good photos of what the crews are doing while training. One of the views shows what a firefighter sees while looking at the screen.
